Founded in 1431 by Pope Eugene IV, then confirmed by the letters patent of King Charles VII, the University of Poitiers originally had five faculties: theology, canon law, civil law, medicine and the arts. Five major areas of teaching: law, economics, management; arts, literature, languages; human and social sciences; sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities; science, technology, health.
