Modernizing Ultrasonic Testing Processes for Enhanced Industrial Performance at Aubert & Duval

Aubert & Duval is a subsidiary of the Eramet Group. Aubert & Duval designs, develops and transforms materials, semi-finished products and parts in special steels, aluminum alloys, superalloys and titanium. Serving some of the most strategic industrial applications, our products enable our customers to go ever further in their search for technological and industrial performance. In 2019, it employed around 4,000 people and achieved a turnover of €622 million, 58% of which was exported and 78% in the aeronautics sector. The project is located on the Aubert & Duval site in Issoire, Puy de Dome, before being rolled out to the other Aubert & Duval sites in Les Ancizes (Puy de Dome) and then in Pamiers (Ariège). The SafeAéro4.0 project should enable Aubert & Duval to modernize its ultrasonic testing processes through the development of new automated systems. Requiring R&D development work and then industrialization, this project carries very important challenges in improving the company's industrial performance and increasing the skills of its employees, with ultrasonic testing being key to guaranteeing the safety of all aeronautical parts produced. This project addresses the global market for aeronautical structural parts made of aluminum or titanium alloys. From 2024, the project should generate a gain of more than €1 million per year and will: • Preserve 15 jobs for NDT control experts serving Aubert & Duval's operations. • Ensure the skills development of 40 jobs based at the Issoire site by avoiding the use of subcontractors to carry out non-destructive testing. • Perpetuate and develop the resources of the Approved Training and Certification Center “FRANDTB” developed by Aubert & Duval and based in Les Ancizes, serving the 142 Aubert et Duval NDT controllers and the thirty or so companies in the aeronautics sector who use it in the region.

Le projet est localisé sur le site d’Aubert & Duval à Issoire, Puy de Dome, avant un déploiement sur les autres sites d’Aubert & Duval des Ancizes (Puy de Dome) puis à Pamiers (Ariège). Le projet SafeAéro4.0 doit permettre à Aubert & Duval de moderniser ses processus de contrôles ultrason grâce aux développements de nouveaux systèmes automatisés. Nécessitant des travaux de développement R&D puis d’industrialisation, ce projet porte de très importants enjeux d’amélioration de performances industrielles de l’entreprise et de montée en compétence de ses collaborateurs, les contrôles ultrason étant clé pour garantir la sécurité de l’ensemble des pièces aéronautiques produites. Ce projet adresse le marché mondial des pièces de structures aéronautiques en alliages d’aluminium ou de titane. A compter de 2024, le projet devrait générer un gain de plus d’1 M€/an et permettra de : • Préserver 15 emplois d’experts en contrôle CND au service des opérations d’Aubert & Duval. • Assurer la montée en compétence de 40 emplois basés sur le site d’Issoire en évitant le recours à la sous-traitance pour réaliser les contrôles non destructifs. • Pérenniser et développer les moyens du Centre Agréé de formation et de certification « FRANDTB » développé par Aubert & Duval et basé aux Ancizes, au service des 142 contrôleurs CND d’Aubert et Duval et de la trentaine d’entreprises du secteur aéronautique qui y font appel dans la région.
