Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca (MUR)

The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) is the Italian government body responsible for promoting and regulating policies related to universities and scientific and technological research in Italy. With regard to research and development (R&D), the MUR coordinates and finances fundamental and applied research projects, both in the public and private sectors, with the aim of stimulating innovation and improving the country's competitiveness.

The Ministry manages several research funding funds, including the Fund for Scientific and Technological Research and supports universities, research centers and innovative start-ups. Furthermore, it promotes cooperation between academic institutions and businesses, in order to transfer scientific knowledge towards practical applications that can foster economic and social development. The MUR is also involved in training researchers and in defining national research policies, through programs such as the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
