Development of a High Voltage Lithium BATtery

LiBAT

The LiBAT project aimed to enhance battery technology for electric aircraft to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the aviation industry. The project focused on developing a prototype battery pack with improved energy storage capacity, higher power, reduced total mass and volume, and better thermal energy management.

The goal was to create a lightweight battery powerful enough to support the flight of a commercial airplane. The prototype was designed to match the current state-of-the-art energy density and to integrate seamlessly into existing aircraft architectures. The development of the prototype aimed to reach Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL4) and was validated under laboratory conditions.

By optimizing energy storage capacity, electrical power, and thermal requirements, LiBAT sought to ensure the reliable, efficient, and safe operation of battery systems for hybrid and electric propulsion in aeronautics, thereby contributing to significant CO2 savings and advancing innovation in the industry.
